Susan Kemper Patrick, Ph.D.
Education researcher.
I am a senior researcher at the Learning Policy Institute (LPI), and I co-lead LPI’s Educator Quality team. My research examines inequities in the learning opportunities available to educators. In my work, I use both qualitative and quantitative methods to better capture and understand the experiences of educators and the implementation of policies meant to support their development. At LPI, I lead a set of interrelated projects describing the national teacher workforce as well as studies of educator preparation in California and Texas.

I received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Vanderbilt University in 2019, a M.Ed. in Learning, Diversity, and Urban Studies from Vanderbilt University in 2010, and a B.A. in African and African-American Studies from Duke University in 2007. Prior to joining the Learning Policy Institute, I served as a postdoctoral researcher for the Tennessee Education Research Alliance.
As of January 2025, I also serve as a Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC), an elected, non-partisan representative in Washington, D.C. For ANC business, please see this website for contact information and upcoming public meetings.
